When travel enthusiasts Ren Garcia and Gladys Fattorini got engaged under a waterfall in Cuba, they knew immediately their wedding would have to be a stunning destination affair. The couple’s passion for international travel is what originally brought them together. The groom’s own Cuban ancestry came into play in deciding where to host the affair.
Garcia and Fattorini planned a “light, white, airy traditional Cuban style” wedding in a waterfront setting, described as “Old Hollywood meets the Cuban Cabaret of the 1950s” by menswear stylist Sebastian Garcia of My Groom’s Room. There was no question that Ren would come to Sebastian for his wedding day attire – “We’ve been using his services for years, whether it be attire for other weddings, award shows or black-tie events. We always call Sebastian!”
Traditionally, guests wear all white for Cuban weddings. “The most beautiful colors are black and white, and in my mind I could only see everyone dressed to the nines in their white attire,” says the groom. “We needed to be conscious of the location and weather conditions, given our wedding was going to be 100% outdoors.”
“Ren lives in Los Angeles, so I wanted to wrap the look into ‘Old Hollywood meets Tropicana,”’ Sebastian says. “I did that with classic linen guayaberas shirts. I also had the groom and his party wear two-tone shoes. This was the style in Cuba when it was at its peak in fashion during the 1950s.”
The couple was married at sunset. The wedding featured Patricio Amaro, one of the biggest pop stars in Cuba (who also happens to be Ren’s cousin!) “Everyone looked amazing, but the groomsmen really stood out in a good way, and the Cuban style, music and mood came through with the groomsmen’s clothing.” Ren and Gladys describe their wedding as the “best decision we ever made” and “best once-in-a-lifetime adventure with all our closest friends and family.”
