Kaitlin & Andrew

Kaitlin and Andrew have a love story that goes all the way back to middle school. Andrew was new to Kaitlin’s school and had a major crush on her, sending her secret valentines. He became a pitcher for the school baseball team, and Kaitlin became the team manager hoping to get to know him better. They began dating in the 8th grade after Kaitlin smoothly slipped a folded note with her phone number into his pocket, and their love story began to unfold.

Flash forward eleven years and Andrew gave Kaitlin the biggest surprise of her life! Kaitlin had been studying and living in Florence, Italy, finishing her bachelors degree. She came home for the holidays and Andrew picked her up from the airport. He held up a sweet sign that said “Kaitie.” He said, “Do you like my sign?” Then, he flipped it over and the sign read, “Mi vuoi sposare?” meaning “will you marry me?” in Italian. Kaitlin was truly shocked. Andrew opened up the ring box with a gorgeous pear shaped diamond inside.“Honestly, after all the years of being together, I had absolutely zero clue he was going to propose and that ring?! It was gorgeous and he was gorgeous and it was just a beautiful time in our lives.”

Kaitlin and Andrew travelled from New Jersey to Key West to have a two week vacation and wedding celebration. They decided to see each other and take group photos prior to the wedding ceremony. Andrew was standing out by the pool, under the palm trees at the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West, Florida. From the bride: “He was as handsome as ever, like Paul Newman, wearing a great midnight blue tux, his bowtie still untied waiting for his bride to come do it for him, as I always tie his tie. He is a gorgeous, beautiful human, inside and out. I just thought this is it! Our wedding day is here. No crying, just love and comfort in being together again.” From the groom: When I saw Kaitie I couldn’t believe how gorgeous she looked.  She had this long flowing veil on, and the way it sat on her head made her look like some type of princess.  I was so nervous and anxious, but seeing her made me feel a little more at ease and made me realize I was about to marry this amazing, beautiful women who I have loved since the first time I saw her all those years ago.”

The Hemingway grounds are so gorgeous and full of lush green palms and vegetation, so Kaitlin and Andrew chose to focus their decor around the organic beauty of the venue. The ceremony was nestled in beautiful trees with the gorgeous French Colonial house in the background. They added lots of white and lights to the natural beauty surrounding them. There were hanging teardrop terrariums from the arch they were married under and lanterns lining the aisle. The bouquet was full of beautiful green palms and white flowers. The cocktail hour was held by the legendary pool at the Hemingway home. Cocktail tables were covered with white linens and lanterns and white lights were wrapped around the tall palm trees surrounding the pool. Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday filled the air during the cocktail hour while guests enjoyed Italian apertivo drinks.

Kaitlin and Andrew asked a very close friend to officiate the ceremony. They were able to write the ceremony together and set the tone together as a group, which was an amazing experience. At the ceremony, Andrew’s father played acoustic guitar with violin accompaniment. Kaitlin and Andrew walked down the aisle together to “Everlong” by the Foo Fighters. Their theme was equality, which is why Kaitlin chose not to be “given away!”

“The entire evening was incredible, we drank Prosecco, did a few speeches, cut the Funfetti naked cake topped with our Flamingo toppers, broke the cake knife while doing so, and really we remember dancing and laughing and loving the entire night. It was a blast. We had 40 people total, including ourselves in attendance. We couldn’t have felt more special, loved, and supported as we did on that night. To have all of these beautiful people with us, who all traveled so far, and on a special holiday weekend, I mean it was an enormous gesture of love. We are still filled with gratitude from that night. It truly set the tone for our marriage.”
