How to Make a Wedding Budget

Planning your wedding can be a daunting task, but before anything can be done you must decide what your budget will be. The budget is the most important detail of the wedding, and without it you won’t be able to turn any of your ideas into realities. You won’t be able to book the perfect venue by the water and have the blue hydrangea flowers unless you know how much you can spend.

Deciding where to spend your money depends on how you want your wedding to look and feel. It’s different for every bride, but Just Save The Date has provided some general guidelines to help plan your special wedding. Below is a look at one way you can divide up your budget.Print

In order to make a budget you need to know who is going to contribute to the wedding. Traditionally, the bride’s family covers the cost of the wedding and the groom’s family covers the cost of the rehearsal dinner. However, today some couples are deciding to split the cost between the families, and other couples are paying for the ceremony out of their own pocket. Don’t assume someone will pay for something. Be sure to sit down with your families and figure out what each person is willing to spend at the beginning of your wedding planning process.

Now, everyone knows that when money is involved families can be a little tense. Communication is key! When someone commits to paying for a part of the wedding, write it down. Keep this list and make sure everyone is on the same page. Keeping everyone informed will reduce the risk of arguments, and make sure items are being checked off your to-do list.

Lastly, once you have a final number for your wedding budget don’t forget to reserve some of the money to tip your vendors. Just go ahead and build this into your budget. An overwhelming majority of vendors are at your wedding to provide a service, and just like your hairdresser they deserve a tip for that service. While vendors are not expecting gratuities, this is a great way to show your appreciation for all the hard work they put into your wedding day. After all, without them your wedding wouldn’t have been the amazing experience it was.
