Tori & David

Beautiful couple, Tori and David, met in their middle school Algebra class in their home state of North Carolina. They continued going to the same high school and then college together, and began dating during Tori’s junior year and David’s sophomore year of college. This sweet couple had two intimate wedding ceremonies, one in North Carolina, and one in sunny Key West, planned and coordinated by the talented Simply You Weddings. The Key West wedding ceremony took place at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park with a beautiful reception to follow at Old Town Manor on June 21, 2014.

David’s incredible surprise proposal took place exactly one year before the North Carolina wedding on June 18th, which was completely unplanned. His heartwarming proposal could not have been more romantic. From David: “In 2013, I graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, one year after Tori graduated from University of North Carolina at Pembroke and became a teacher. That summer after my graduation, Tori’s family, Tori, and I went to Barcelona, Spain on vacation and to visit her cousin who works as a missionary. Before we left for Spain, she surprised me with airline tickets for a day trip from Barcelona to Lisbon, Portugal. I knew that day would be an awesome and unexpected day to propose to her.

We started off that day leaving Barcelona early in the morning expecting sunshine and cool breezes once we arrived in Lisbon. Instead, we got rain and clouds. First things first, we went shopping for warmer clothes. Then we started our adventure through the capital taking a tour bus and stopped along the way at a monastery, shops, the beach, and for lunch and dinner. The whole time, I carried her engagement ring (that I picked out myself by the way) in my pocket hoping to God that I wouldn’t lose it before I proposed. I had no idea when the perfect time would be to present her with the ring. So like most important things, I waited until 30 min before we got on a shuttle back to the airport. Nervous, but recognizing there would be no perfect time than the present, I handed my camera to a tourist and told Tori we should take some pictures of ourselves together before we leave. I pulled the ring out of my pocket, and got down on one knee asking her to marry me. She said “yes!!!”

The first time Tori saw David at their first ceremony, she saw him standing in his military ensemble and could see tears of joy in his eyes. She could not stop smiling because she had only seen that raw, emotional side of him a handful of times. At the Key West ceremony, Tori had a little surprise for David. She told him she would be wearing the same long, white gown from the first wedding, but she came out from Old Town Manor’s balcony and surprised David in a short, lace wedding dress. He loved it!

Tori and David chose Fort Zachary State Park for the ceremony because of its beautiful backdrop of white sand and blue water. Then, they moved to Old Town Manor for an intimate, tropical reception. David bottled his own white wine to offer as a gift to each guest personalized with the wedding date and the couple’s names. David and Tori loved having an intimate wedding with 30 guests, because they could have a lot of fun and spend quality time with each guest. They knew this would be an important moment to spend time with David’s Air Force Academy friends, who are all busy with their military careers. “We really wanted to make sure that we spent as much time with all of our friends and family that weekend.”

Before the ceremony at Fort Zachary State Park, Tori and David gathered their bridal party on a trolley to take beautiful pictures. Then, the guests arrived and were seated under the palms and the ceremony began right as the sun began to descend. Some of Tori’s favorite pictures took place during the ceremony; the location was so gorgeous! Then, the lovely reception took place at Old Town Manor. It was a wonderful night full of cake, desserts, dancing, and laughter. Tori and David had an unforgettable Key West wedding with their closest family and friends!
