You’re Engaged! Now What?

Congratulations! You are engaged and ready to begin the rest of your life with the love of your life! Now, it is time to start planning your dream wedding full of love and celebration. At the beginning, it is difficult to know where to start. That is why we spoke with professional wedding planner, Jessica Masi, of JCG Events to help you brides through the first steps of wedding planning!

The first few steps in the wedding planning process for a couple who just got engaged involve thinking about the wedding vision that the couple has in mind. Do you perhaps want to plan a destination wedding or host the wedding in the city where you live? Think about the guest list and the type of soiree that you truly want. Once you and your partner have a vision and general idea of the time of year and guest list, it is time to start sourcing vendors. “One of the first vendors to consider is a wedding planner.” If you want to have a planner join you on this journey, it is always best to hire them early on so they can assist you in the venue and vendor selection process.

A very common mistake in wedding planning is allowing yourself to become completely overwhelmed. “The planning process should be fun!” JCG Events always tells their clients to look at the wedding planning process in components and in a linear timeline. If you try to digest all the vendors and components at once, you will find the entire process daunting and overwhelming. Take a breath and work through each wedding planning component at a time!

It is also important not to stress over who will be involved in the bridal party. JCG Events sees more and more brides opting not to have a bridal party at all, or to have a very small bridal party with members who will be a part of the bride’s life forever. The bridal party should consist of loving and supporting people that you know will always be important to you!

Finally, you may be asking when to announce your new engagement to family and friends. This is a personal preference, but JCG Events mentions that couples typically do not wait too long to announce their engagement, especially with easy access to social media! Engagement announcements have almost become instantaneous!
