Audiences and Fashionistas alike waited in silence to find out who would be the designer of Amal Alamuddin’s wedding gown. It was almost a no-brainer when the dress was revealed… of course it was Oscar de la Renta. Vogue magazine was the exclusive publication at the fashion house when Amal was receiving her final fitting and provided some exclusive details all about the most talked about dress of the year.
When narrowing down the various couture choices, Amal said,
“George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress.”
And of course, Oscar achieved just that. La Renta told Vogue that he felt very honored to be chosen to design Amal’s wedding gown. He noted the importance of a wedding dress saying it’s “the most important dress in the life of a woman.” To begin the design process, Amal and La Renta worked closely looking over his Evening Collections and Wedding Collections to collaborate on something that would fit both Amal’s style and grace.
Oscar de la Renta created a cream French lace wedding gown complete with pearls and diamente accents and 14-yards worth of Chantilly lace that produced an off-the-shoulder neckline and full circle train. Her Cathedral veil had Chantilly lace, beading, and crystal embroidery. So glamorous!
Vogue did report that Amal changed into a second dress for her reception, a more “dance-ready” gown. It was a dress taken from Oscar’s Fall 2014 Collection. It was a gorgeous, beaded, Gatsby-esque column gown that sparkled with every move. They shortened the runway look to show off Amal’s endless legs.
You may not be able to have Oscar de la Renta design your most important dress, but whoever does, it is uniquely yours. And that’s a reason for celebration in itself. Besides being the most important dress, its the more important day of your life. Enjoy it beautifully!
